For external use, linseed decoctions are useful for dermatosis, skin itching, burns (including sunburns), throat redness. The most widespread use of linseeds though is for resolvent and emollient poultices in catarrhal cough, which soothe and facilitate expectoration. Linseeds are effective in case of constipation, as they absorb water and form a mass containing mucilage which makes the intestinal bolus more fluid, protects the mucosa, and increases the bowel volume thus stimulating the peristalsis with a laxative effect.
For decoctions: 2g in 100ml of water. In case of constipation: a tablespoon dissolved in one glass of water.
